Always hire a store designer. Experience has proven that a great store upgrade can increase sales by 20 – 30%.
· When your team is talking about store design, be sure they talk about sales productivity per square foot and not just “wonderful design”.
· State clear what your prime strategy is, how design should support it, what goes where and why, and what the specific budget is.
· Get them (designers) to add their ideas, creativity and experience.
· Show their initial sketches and designs to your staff and customer for feedback,
· Judge their work based on:
o Supports your strategic direction?
o Does it have appealing to your target market?
o Does it create a unique image as compared to competition?
o The products presentation is clear? The services are well communicated?
